INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team had a quick turnaround on Sunday, competing at the Greyhound Open. The Panthers had three duals yesterday at the Greyhound Duals and stayed in Indianapolis for a second competition of the weekend.
Both
Gavyn Uribes and
Dalen Kimble finished 2-2 at their respective weight classes on the day. Having to weigh in twice in a weekend is always a challenge. At 157 pounds, Kimble won his opening round match in a defensive battle, 2-1. Kimble was pinned in the second round, but won in the consolation round in another thriller, 7-6 over Brian Barrett of Manchester.
Uribes got bumped into the consolation round with an opening round loss. Uribes matched-up against Matthew Hobbs of Quincy in the next round and picked-up a convincing 11-4 victory. He then had to face Orest Nazarchuk from Maryville in the consolation second round. Uribes picked-up a 10-8 decision after seven minutes of action. Isaac Lehman of Tiffin got the better of Uribes in the next round, ending his tournament.
Larson Pilant,
Tay Martinez, and
Nolan McKelvy all had a win on the day. Pilant picked-up a pin at 133-pounds. Martinez and McKelvy each earned a decision at 165 and 174-pounds respectively.
The Panthers will host Tiffin on Saturday in their final action before the NCAA Super Regionals. Competition at Jones Gym is schedule to start at 12PM.
