CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was back in action on Wednesday evening, marking their first event of the New Year. Wesleyan had its match against Salem cancelled, making the evening a Tri-meet at the Connor Convocation Center. The Panthers lost their other two matches against Seton Hill and Thomas More. The Griffins are receiving national votes in the most recent poll.
The evening started with a 50-0 loss to Seton Hill. The Panthers experienced some hard luck in the late moments of the loss to the Griffins. At 197-pounds
Drayden McKerrow was leading throughout the match thanks to an early takedown in the first period. McKerrow was also allowed to stack-up some significant riding time. Luke Boylan did not have an offensive point through the first two periods as McKerrow led 4-2 going into the final two minutes. Boylan caught McKerrow with a late takedown and pinned him in the final second of the match.
Gavyn Uribes was also deadlocked in the heavyweight match. After a scoreless first period Uribes led 1-0 heading into the final frame. Ritchie McCormack earned an escape point in the third to tie the match and has time began to tick away, McCormack took down Uribes in the final seconds to receive the 4-1 decision.

In the 133-pound match,
Larson Pilant fell behind early and did not allow another point the rest of the match. Jacob Braun executed solid defense as Pilant found himself in position to score in the third period.
The Panthers had to forfeit four matches against Thomas More and fell 42-14. However, the match started with Pilant picking-up a forfeit at 133-pounds. The 174-pound match featured all the fireworks as
Nolan McKelvy picked-up a technical fall. McKelvy started the first period with a takedown and near-fall points, but was reversed to his back by Zavier Campsey and suddenly the match was tied at 5-5. Before the end of the period McKelvy escaped and earned another takedown to hold an 9-5 lead after the first three minutes.
McKelvy produced two more takedowns with near-fall points to end the match early. In the heavyweight match Uribes led 3-0 after the first period and added to his lead with an escape and takedown in the second frame. Leading 7-1 going into the final two minutes Joseph Scarborough mounted some offense and pulled within 7-6, but another escape and takedown by Uribes sealed the match for the Panthers' sophomore.
The Panthers will next be in action at the end of the month as they will host the Great Midwest Conference Championship. Competition will be held at the Moore Center on the campus of Brescia University, in Owensboro. Competition is scheduled to start at 10AM CT.
