Panthers Seventh at G-MAC Championship

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was back in action on Saturday as the host of the Great Midwest Conference Championship. The annual event rotates to all member institutions as Wesleyan previously hosted in 2021, the first G-MAC Championship event post-CoVID. Ashland University won the team title narrowly over Tiffin while the Panthers finished seventh.

The Panthers did not compete in the 2025 G-MAC Championship and with plenty of new faces on the roster the Panthers continued to make progress as the season. Nolan McKelvy and Gavyn Uribes accounted for the Panthers' team points. McKelvy lost his opening round match at 174-pounds, but looked in complete control in next round, defeating Liam Scharm of Thomas More by major decision.

In a match that featured explosive sequences from Scharm, McKelvy was ready to defend and provide a counterattack. McKelvy later lost in the consolation bracket to Isaac Lacinski from Tiffin.

Uribes opened the day with a 9-1 major decision over Thomas More heavyweight Diego Pelletier in the opening round. Uribes then ran into two of the best heavyweights in the league in the quarterfinals and consolation bracket.

Larson Pilant continued to make strides at 133-pounds, despite gifting Christopher Ferraro of Thomas More six early points in his second match of the day. Pilant eventually fell 7-3, but had scoring opportunities late in the third period. Juan Quintana suffered a similar fate at 141-pounds as his late rally fell short, falling 12-9. Dalen Kimble was leading Hunter Isaacs of Thomas More at 157 pounds in his second-round match before Isaacs dramatically flipped Kimble for pin.

The Panthers will travel to Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday for the Greyhound Duals and Greyhound Open. The Panthers will face three of the best teams in the nation on Saturday in Indianapolis, McKendree, and Maryville before finishing off the weekend in the Open Tournament. Competition at the Greyhound Duals is scheduled to start at 1PM CT.
