INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team suffered three losses to the three of the nation's top ranked teams. The Panthers competed at the Greyhound Duals on Saturday afternoon facing 25
thranked Indianapolis, 8
th ranked McKendree, and also receiving votes Maryville University.
The Greyhounds shut-out the Panthers in the opening match. McKendree picked-up a 49-3 win over Wesleyan while Maryville rounded out the day with a 46-3 victory. Against the Bearcats 133 pounder Anthony Bernardo went into the final period against
Juan Quintana with a 5-1 lead, but an early take down by Quintana made things interesting, 5-4. Bernardo earned a reversal to extend his lead. After an escape, Quintana was down by two with over a minute left in the match. Bernardo went full on defense in the final seconds to stay ahead.
Dalen Kimble won his 141-pound match over Luke Kemper. Kimble produced an early first period takedown and only allowed two escape points heading into the final period. The final two minutes ended with both wrestlers on their feet as neither could maneuver another takedown. At heavyweight
Gavyn Uribes charged back into the match in the final period, falling 11-6. Uribes was 10-2 late into the second period before mounting move offense.
In the finale against the Saints,
Nolan McKelvy dug himself a hole, trailing 12-5 after the opening period at 174 pounds. McKelvy owned the rest of the match. In the second frame, McKelvy tookdown Evan Morris to his back for nearfall points, he later rolled Morris to his back before the period expired to go on top 16-13. After a riding time point at the end, McKelvy won 17-13.
The Panthers will remain in Indianapolis for the Greyhound Open on Saturday. Competition will begin at 9AM CT.
