INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team finished 12th among 13 teams in the annual G-MAC Softball Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Wesleyan totaled 39 points in the poll, coming in ahead of Lake Erie with 27 points. Tiffin slotted in on top with 156 points and 11 of the 13 first-place votes, while Findlay (137 points) and Hillsdale (133 points) rounded out the top three.
KWC's returners include Chloe Apple (.218 AVG, 6 XBH, 19 RBI in 44 games), Hannah Beasley (.346 AVG, 3 XBH, 13 RBI in 31 games), Kennedy Matheis (.243 AVG, 3 XBH, 6 RBI in 32 games), and Lauren Pellerito (.212 AVG, 1 XBH, 2 RBI in 31 games). Seven of Wesleyan's 11 student-athletes will be newcomers.
The Panthers' first 25 games will be away from Foster Field, beginning in February and taking Wesleyan all the way into conference action in late March.
"We will be tested early with being on the road for the first half of the season. That stretch will make us stronger and ready for conference play," said head coach Miles Mallette. "We're looking forward to seeing how our group will improve as the season progresses."
