Pepper Pike, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team leaned on their offense in a sweep of Ursuline on Saturday afternoon, reaching 10 wins on the year.
Ursuline scored first in Game 1, putting up two runs in the bottom of the second to go up 2-0, but the Panthers had a quick response in the next half inning. AJ Middleton worked a walk, Augusta Garr singled, and Cam Mann next lifted her first home run of the season to put Wesleyan on top 3-2.
Ursuline added another run in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. The Panthers offense stayed quiet all the way up to the seventh frame before it finally woke up. Guinny Garr led off with a double, Chloe Apple followed with a single, and AJ Middleton also singled to score Wesleyan's fourth run. Cam Mann came through later in the inning with an RBI single, stretching the Panthers' advantage to 5-3.
The Arrows were able to tack on two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Luckily, Wesleyan wasn't going to let this game get past the eighth inning. Immi Mann doubled, Kennedy Matheis singled, and Guinny Garr reached first on an error that allowed Mann to score. Then, Chloe Apple singled to load the bases before Hannah Beasley doubled to drive in two more runs. AJ Middleton continued her strong game with another RBI single and Augusta Garr recorded an RBI groundout to cap off a five-run frame for the Panthers.
Ursuline tallied two runs in their final turn at the plate, but Wesleyan ultimately closed out the 10-7 Game 1 victory.
In Game 2, the Panthers were the first on the board. Augusta Garr singled and was later driven home by an Immi Mann double to give Wesleyan a 1-0 advantage in the first.
Ursuline scored the game's next two runs, but Wesleyan used a big top of the third to take the lead back. Augusta Garr walked and stole second before Lexie Onyett recorded an RBI triple to score Garr. Immi Mann followed with a two-run home run, her fourth of the season, to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead.
After the Arrows tied the game at 3-3, Wesleyan had perhaps their best offensive inning of the season in the top of the fourth. Matheis singled and Augusta Garr tripled to make the score 5-3. Cam Mann then singled and stole second before a Lexie Onyett walk loaded the bases. Immi Mann came through again with a single to move everyone up a base before Grace Colvin doubled to clear the bases and stretch the advantage to 9-3.
Next, Guinny Garr walked and Chloe Apple followed with a three-run home run, her first of the season, to increase the gap to 12-3. Hannah Beasley then doubled, Matheis walked, and Cam Mann singled to load the bases yet again. Onyett delivered with a double to score two more runs before Immi Mann tallied yet another single to drive in two final runs for Wesleyan, putting the road team on top 16-3.
The Panthers closed out the doubleheader sweep over the next two innings, finalizing the 16-4 triumph.
Wesleyan is back on the diamond Saturday, April 26, for a Senior Day doubleheader vs. Thomas More at Foster Field.
