OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team split its last Saturday series of the season at Foster Field. The season finale saw the Panthers take down Thomas More University 6-3 in the opener before falling in the second game.
Immi Mann pitched a complete game in the opener while helping her own cause at the plate. The Saints scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, but the Panthers bounced back in the bottom half of the inning.
Immi Mann led-off the frame with a single and scored on
Guinny Garr's double down the left field line.
Garr went to third after a wild pitched and later scored on
Hannah Beasley's single into centerfield. The Wesleyan lead did not last long as the Saints tied the game in top of the third and then took a 3-2 lead after a run-in top of the fourth.
The Panthers busted the game open in the bottom of the fifth with four runs, all coming with two outs in the frame. Beasley plated two runs with a single to right while
Chloe Apple doubled down the line to score another run.
Kennedy Matheis capped off the rally with a RBI single up the middle, giving the Panthers a 6-3 lead.
Mann earned her ninth win of the season with seven innings of work, allowing three runs, two earned on six hits with four strikeouts. She was also one for three at the plate with a run scored.
Guinny Garr was two for two with a double and RBI. Beasley finished two for three with three RBIs.
The Saints won the second game 18-4. The Panthers took a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Lexi Onyett got the rally started with an RBI single while
Immi Mann extended the inning with a RBI double. Beasley kept her aggressive approach at the plate by driving in Mann and Onyett with single into right.
Thomas More scored three times in the top of the second to pull within one run, 4-3. After an eight run third, the Saint followed with seven runs in the fourth to take a commanding lead.
Wesleyan finished the season with a 11-33 record with a 6-18 mark in league play. The Saints kept their playoff hopes alive and stand 21-25 on the year with a 9-15 record in G-MAC play.
