OWENSBORO, Ky. – Jakob DeShields has been named the Great Midwest Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking performance last Saturday.

In that game against Thomas More, the redshirt junior had six punts for 249 yards, good for a 44.8-yard average per punt, and totaled three inside the 20 while forcing three fair catches.

One of those six was a school-record 78-yard punt that featured a friendly bounce and pinned the Saints at the three-yard line.

In total this season, the Cordova, Tennessee, native had 51 punts for 2009 yards and a 39.8-yard average per punt.

His season total also includes 13 forced fair catches, 12 punts inside the 20, and four 50+ yard punts.

Additionally, DeShields added an 18-yard run on a fake punt earlier in the campaign against Findlay.
