Owensboro, Ky. – Pavel Valchev has been named the G-MAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for his play in Saturday's G-MAC Quarterfinals victory over Lake Erie.
The junior led an impressive defensive effort that saw Wesleyan allow just one goal by the Storm across the first 90 minutes and the three overtime periods.
Later, when the match went into a shootout to break the 1-1 tie, Valchev netted the match-winning kick to send the Panthers to the G-MAC Semifinals for the first time in school history.
The defender has played and started in all 17 matches for Wesleyan this season, earning two assists and two total points on the year while playing a vital role in seven shutouts for the Panthers defense.
Wesleyan looks to continue their postseason run on Thursday against the top-seeded Tiffin Dragons. Kickoff is set for 12:30 PM in Tiffin, Ohio.
