INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – As announced by the league office Tuesday morning, the Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer program had three student-athletes named to the Great Midwest All-Tournament Team.
Midfielders Haakon Torvbraaten and Nicklas Henriksen and defender Jhaeem Bryan were recipients of all-tournament honors for their play in the G-MAC Tournament.
Torvbraaten, a senior from Asker, Norway, tallied a goal and three assists across Wesleyan's three postseason matches to complete a historic career in purple. Torvbraaten set new program records in games played (79) and games started (74).
Henriksen, a sophomore from Alesund, Norway, scored the match's lone goal in the Panthers' semifinal victory over Cedarville. Henriksen delivered the kick through the legs of two Yellow Jackets defenders, leaving the goalkeeper frozen as the ball hit the back of the net.
Bryan, a junior from Manchester, Jamaica, was the leading catalyst for a defense that notched two shutouts in the first two rounds of the tournament. Bryan played every possible minute across the three matches, as did Torvbraaten, including 105 in the championship match.
Wesleyan narrowly missed out on the Division II NCAA Tournament as the bracket was announced Monday night.
Nonetheless, it was yet another historic campaign for the Panthers. Before last year, KWC had never even appeared in the G-MAC championship match. Wesleyan has now notched back-to-back appearances in the final match while winning ten games each year, a feat the program only accomplished four times previously and not since 1991.
