INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was back on the mat on Sunday to compete in the Greyhound Open hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The Panthers bounced back from the dual matches on Saturday to record some strong finishes in a talented event.
The Panthers' day was highlighted by
Gabe Adams and
Bryson Rowley. Adams marched through the 141-weight class falling in the blood round. Adams recorded a few byes and a medical forfeit to get into the consolation fourth round. Adams then picked-up a 3-2 win over Lucas Laux from Maryville in the fifth round. He eventually exited the bracket after an 8-1 loss to Ronan Schuelke from McKendree.
Rowley won his opening match by pin fall early in the second period over Zimani Malomboza from Indiana Tech. After a loss in the quarter finals of the 125-weight class, Rowley recoded another pin, this time over Taraen High from Manchester. It took Rowley just over two minutes to dispatch of High. His tournament ended in the next round.
At 165 pounds
Caden Moore lost his first match of the day, but defeated Manchester's Ellisston Ross in sudden victory in the consolation round. Moore then earned a 6-3 decision over Drake Egan from Indiana Tech in the consolation round before being eliminated from the open.
After having to forfeit a match yesterday due to injury,
Drayden McKerrow was back on the mat in the 197-pound weight class. McKerrow won his opening match by pin fall before dropping back-to-back matches. Also highlighting the event was Wesleyan Assistant Coach
Andrew Parker who went 2-2 on the day after nearly a year absence from competition. Parker, still at 133 pounds, recorded a decision and pin on the day.
The Panthers will prepare for the NCAA Super Regional in two weeks. The Panthers will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma on February 26
th for the event to be hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.
