OWENSBORO, Ky. – Friday saw the pads come out as the Kentucky Wesleyan College football team held its first practice in full pads.

Eyes will be on the offense this season under first-year Head Coach Craig Yeast who ran the top offense the past three years in all of NCAA Division III.

The Panthers top running back returns for his junior season in Corey Johnson Jr.  Johnson led Wesleyan with 581-yards last year, finding the end zone three times.  The Louisville, Kentucky native was the lone running back from the Panthers to receive All-Conference honors, being named an All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference Honorable Mention.

"Corey brings a level of leadership to our unit that is needed because we are so young.  His athleticism and being a big, strong, fast kid makes him a threat," commented running backs Coach Matthew Amburgey.

Johnson's running mate will be Landan Thomas who had a break out freshman campaign last season.  Thomas also tallied three touchdowns while racking up 399-yards.

"Landan is a huge asset to our offense and is one of the most explosive players on the field.  He was a little injured during spring practice but he is starting to come around and be the player that we know he can be," noted Amburgey.

"I'm really pleased with our newcomers," continued Amburgey.  "James Noble and Jatorian Dillard have had a strong camp and have made a lot of nice things happen during practice.  This group has a lot of love and compassion for each other on and off the field.  They hold each other accountable and that certainly strengthens our unit."
