Series History
This will mark the fourth ever matchup between the two teams but the first time the Panthers have visited North Canton. Wesleyan is still looking for their first win over the Cavaliers since they joined the G-MAC in 2017.
Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (0-8 overall, 0-5 G-MAC)
The Panthers are coming off a 41-14 road loss at Hillsdale last week in a rain soaked affair. Zach Thornton recorded a pick six on Hillsdale's first drive of the game. Wesleyan has now scored 17 points off of turnovers on the year.
Quarterback Wiley Cain eclipsed 1,500-yards last week and now sits at 1,502-yards on the season along with seven touchdowns. De'Ondre Boggs leads the receivers with 369-yards on the season. David Florence and Peyton Peters have a chance to break into the 300's this week, sitting at 285 and 296 respectively. The run game continues to be led by Corey Johnson Jr. who has accumulated 303-yards on the year. Landon Newman has nearly 200-yards, sitting at 192-yards while Jatorian Dillard has tallied 153-yards.
Jalen Wilson paces the defense with 42.5 tackles, trailed closely by Jalen Humphrey at 41.5. Dalan Cofer leads the team with 2.5 sacks while Tyreik Norwood and Oscar Elliott have both recorded two. The Panthers now have nine interceptions on the season with Wilson, Moe Carter and Armand Childs.
Walsh Cavaliers (1-7 overall, 1-4 G-MAC)
The Cavaliers are coming off an odd 7-0 loss to Ohio Dominican last week. Another game played in constant rain, neither team recorded over 250-yards of total offense. Walsh is currently in a three-game losing streak with their lone win of the season coming in week five at Lake Erie. Walsh has averaged 10.5 points per game this season while being shut out three times.
After not seeing a single snap in the first two games of the season, Nick Gassman has taken over at quarterback. The redshirt junior has since thrown for 622-yards and four touchdowns, averaging 103.7-yards per game. Four different Cavs have recorded at least 100-receiving yards on the year. Koby Adu-Poku paces the team with 262-yards followed by Deondre Cook (162), Logan Lindsay (115) and Quinn Thomas (103). It's clear Adu-Poku is the Cavs go-to-guy on the ground as he's the only Cav with over 100-yards rushing. The junior has 475-yards on the season, but only one touchdown.
The defense is led by Sal Sidebotham who has racked up 57 tackles on the year, averaging 7.1 tackles per game. Leondre Crosby is close behind at 51. The duo also lead the Cavs in sacks with 2.5 each. Stephen Baugh, Myles Williams and Antoine Holloway each have two interceptions on the year.
