INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the second time this season, Kentucky Wesleyan's
Madisyn Hunt has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Hunt erupted for a 10-point week with four goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Panthers that saw crucial wins over preseason league favorites Walsh and Malone.
The Jasper, Ind. native had a six-point performance in a 4-0 victory over Walsh, scoring two goals while picking up an assist on both of Kam Pulliam's goals. Hunt went on to score two goals in a 3-0 win over Malone to close out the week.
Hunt has jumped into the national spotlight this week, having the lead or tied for the lead in four statistical categories. She is the outright leader in NCAA Division II in points per game (3.33) and goals per game (1.42) while tied for the lead in total goals (17) and total points (40).
The junior now sits atop the Kentucky Wesleyan record books with the career record for both goals (38) and points (87). The previous records were held by
Nora Karvonen (2006-2009) with 35 goals and 82 points (35 goals, 12 assists).
The Panthers are riding a three game win streak, winning four of their last five games to put themselves in playoff contention. With four conference games remaining, Wesleyan currently sits in sixth place.
Wesleyan has one conference game this week, traveling to Philippi, W. Va. to take on the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus on Thursday before hosting Oakland City on Monday in their final non-conference game of the season.
