Timberwolves Avoid Upset at Panther Field

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team took Northwood University to the brink of an upset, but the Timberwolves caught fire in the final minutes to secure three points after a 4-1 decision. The Panthers led for a majority of the contest, but they were not on top when the clock ran out.

The Panthers were executing a sound attack at the start as Haylie Panter tested Northwood (8-1-5, 5-1-5 G-MAC) keeper, Lindsay Jacob, with a shot in the second minute. Jacob made the save, but Panter was again available again in the 11th minute. Marley Collins crossed a pass down to Panter who scored the first goal of the match.

The Panthers took three shots in the opening 45 minutes, two on goal. Wesleyan went into intermission with a 1-0 lead. Northwood was stymied at the beginning of the second period as well. The Panthers had a counterattack for just about everything the Timberwolves attempted.

In the 60th minute, the Timberwolves broke through and found the equalizer. The flood gates opened shortly thereafter as the Panthers could not get organized for the next 12 minutes. Northwood added two more goals in that short span to take a commanding lead.

Panter had three shots, two on goal. Mariah Winge also finished the match with a shot. The Panthers will host Cedarville on Wednesday evening. The match at Panther Field is schedule to start at 5PM.
