Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer team suffered a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Ohio Dominican at Panther Field Saturday afternoon.
The first 45 minutes went scoreless, with both teams having opportunities to break open the scoring. Sierra Mullins nearly put Wesleyan on the board first, but Ohio Dominican earned a nice save to prevent the goal.
It didn't take long for the visiting Panthers to get on the scoreboard in the second half, tallying a 52nd minute goal to take a 1-0 lead. Not even eight minutes later, ODU added a second goal in the 59th minute to double their advantage.
Wesleyan wasn't planning on going scoreless in their home finale. Senior Steeley Walker, in her final game at Panther Field, connected with Haylie Panter for the latter's fourth goal of the season in the 71st minute to cut Ohio Dominican's lead to 2-1.
Wesleyan had several strong chances as the game winded down, including close shots by Walker and Deca Burr, but couldn't get the game tied up.
Panter had four total shots, with her score being one of two shots on goal for the Panthers. Wesleyan did lead in saves (3-1) and corner kicks (4-3).
The Panthers next head to Crestview Hills, Kentucky, for their season finale on Tuesday, November 4. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM and the match will be streamed live on FloCollege.
