Hall of Fame Spotlight: Willis Cheaney

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College Department of Athletics is pleased to celebrate its Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees with a weekly spotlight.  Today, Kentucky Wesleyan recognizes Willis Cheaney.

Cheaney graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan in 1995 and was a member of the men's basketball team where he started in 53 of 114 games played.  During the 1995 season he earned All-American First-Team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Division II Bulletin and Daktronics.  That season he also earned Second-Team All-American honors from the Basketball Times and was a NABC All-Region selection.  His senior season he was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year while also bringing home All-GLVC honors twice in his career.

A native of Murray, Ky., Cheaney scored 1,350 points during his career at Kentucky Wesleyan.  He still holds the all-time record in assists with 635 while ranking second in steals with 223.  Cheaney ranks in the Top 10 of three other statistical categories including fourth in free throw percentage at 83.9, fifth in minutes played at 3,050 and eighth in free throws made at 338.  Over the span of his career, Cheaney boasted a field goal percentage of 47.5 while draining 108 three-pointers and grabbing 343 rebounds.  He also holds the season three-point percentage record at 53.3.

The Induction Ceremony will take place during Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 6, 2017.  The ceremony, presented by Kentucky Legend ™, will be held at the Owensboro Convention Center on Friday evening.  Register for the event by visiting www.kwc.edu/homecoming.
