Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's golf team improved once again from round one to round two on their way to a 6th-place finish at their home event, the Bill Crabtree Invitational at The Pearl Club.
The Panthers shot 329-316 over the two days, a significant improvement from last year's 348-339 card at the same event.
Based on available records, this was the best round that the Kentucky Wesleyan women's golf team has shot in the last decade.
Additionally, and again based on available records, freshman Lucia Perez turned in the best 36-hole score in the history of the program by posting a 150. The Huntsville, Alabama, native was consistent across both rounds, logging a 75 for each, and came in T-4th among the 40 student-athletes.
Freshman AnnaMae Atcher slotted in at T-19th with a 162, including an eight-shot improvement round-over-round (85-77). Sophomore Ansley Adams came in 27th with a 166 (83-83), and sophomore Autumn Osborne wasn't far behind in T-30th with a 170 while also registering an eight-shot improvement (89-81).
Senior Avery Shacklette posted a 174 (88-86), sophomore Javen Campbell recorded a 176 (83-93), and sophomore Aylin Hatch tallied a 177 (86-91) to round out the Wesleyan effort at their home course.
"This was a significant day for our program," head coach Ken Badylak said. "This is the best round we have shot in the last decade, and it could even be a school record for the program itself. I was very happy with the way we responded after yesterday and continued to improve throughout the course of not only this weekend, but the fall season as well. We saw a 36-hole low by an individual in Lucia, and we had the best round of the day through 15 holes. We can take that confidence and continue to improve next week."
Wesleyan next heads to the Davenport Panther Invitational this weekend, October 11-12, in Augusta, Michigan, at Stonehedge North Golf Course.
