Columbus, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's golf team opened the 2024 campaign with some great competition as part of the ODU Champions of Women's Golf event from September 16-17.
The Panthers finished 14th as a team in the 15-team event, but improved from the first round to the second bound and are confident in their direction as the season progresses.
Samantha DeSpain had a strong beginning to her senior season with score of +31 that put her 65th out of 100 athletes. Megan Bryan wasn't far behind her with a score of +35, including an impressive +14 in the second round. Avery Shacklette, Audrey Koetter, Autumn Osborne, and Javen Campbell all competed in the imposing field as well for Wesleyan.
Lisa Marie Schumacher, for the second year in a row, came out on top as she carded the only under-par score of -1. Additionally, Schumacher helped lead Tiffin to a first-place team finish.
The Panthers are back on the course next week in Ashland, Ohio, for the 36-hole Eagle Invitational from September 23-24.
