OLD HICKORY, TN - The Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Golf team posted two strong rounds on Monday and Tuesday at the Trevecca Nazarene Music City Invite, notching a 291 (+3) in the first round and tying a season best with a 283 (-5) in the second. This tournament saw some very low scores, as Wesleyan's combined score of 574 (-2) was only good enough for a tie for ninth.
Tiffin won the team title with a 563 (-13), as their fifth player score was used to separate them after a three-way tie with Delta State and Northwood.
Senior
Tyler Nickol led the way for the Panthers, shooting rounds of 72-68 to finish with a 140 (-4), good for 16th in the 68 man field. Nickol was three over after just five holes, but played his final 31 holes at an incredible seven under par. Coming in not far behind Nickol was
Jonah Graham, who went 74-71 to finish tied for 28th with a 145 (+1). His one under 71 in the second round was the seventh time he has gone under par for a round this year.
Finishing right next to each other were
Evan Beery (146, +2), and
Evan Schumacher (147, +3). Both Evans had identical three birdie, three bogey even par final rounds. Closing it out for Wesleyan was freshman
Thomas Scott, who shot a collegiate career low 71 on day one to help the Panthers stay alive in the standings.
Tyler Nickol tied for the fourth best par 4 average in the tournament, averaging a 3.80 and shooting a total of -4 on those holes. Just behind him was
Jonah Graham, who went -3 on par 4's and averaged a 3.85. Nickol was ninth in the tournament with 10 birdies, while Graham was ninth with 26 pars.
The Panthers won't have to go far for next week's conference championships, as they will take place at the Pearl Club here in Owensboro. The first three rounds will take place on Monday-Tuesday, April 22-23, with the top two teams playing in match play format on Wednesday to determine the champion.
