TERRE HAUTE, IN - The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Track & Field team performed well on Saturday at Indiana State, scoring 57 points to take fifth in the meet. Wesleyan was led by sophomore
Kate Keller and
Abigail Lesniak, who both won their respective events.
Kate Keller led from start to finish in the 800 meters, running a season-best time of 2:25.73 to take the win.
Abigail Lesniak took the lead early in the 3000 meter run and never looked back, winning the event with a new personal best time of 10:47.76.
"We had a really good run by
Kate Keller in the 800, running a time that nearly broke her outdoor PR," said Head Coach Sol Stephens. "
Abigail Lesniak ran a good race, despite being by herself for most of the race. Sarah ran an incredible race, running a big lifetime best and showing her strength the entire way."
Sarah Vanderhoof ran extremely well in the 3000m, breaking the 11 minute barrier and setting a new personal best with a time of 10:55.63, good for second place.
Emery Crume came in fifth in the 3000m with a time of 11:24.93, just four seconds off a season's best.
Karlee Hoffman continued her strong distance season with a time of 5:39.40 in the mile, good for third place.
Lucy Knutson also scored points in the mile for the Panthers, notching one points with a time of 6:12.17.
Jenna Burns scored eight points in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.35, while
Jaiden Davis used an incredible kick to move up to fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:39.24.
Abby Greene rounded out the scoring for the Panthers in the 800 with a time of 2:48.41. The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of
Jaiden Davis,
Abby Greene,
Yogi McKnight, and
Kate Keller ran a time of 4:28.57 to finish in 3rd place, just behind Lindenwood and Indiana State, two DI programs.
Karyn Williams scored points in both the long and triple jump, taking eighth in the triple with a leap of 10.41m (34'2"), and seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.96m (16'3").
"
Karyn Williams has some kinks with her run, but she is working through it and putting forth the good results. Repetition is the name of the game for her. Our biggest goal was that everyone who showed up healthy, walked away healthy, and that was accomplished. One person that showed up was
Bethany Bonanni. She may not have run her best times today, but her attitude of being prepared is what we look for in everyone. The consistency she has is what we need from everyone right now, and once that happens, great things will come."
The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they head to Bloomington, Indiana next week for Hoosier Hills, hosted by Indiana University. The meet will take place on Friday, February 10th.
