Panthers run strong at the University of Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY - Wesleyan ran strong at the University of Kentucky this past weekend, finishing well against some extremely tough competition.

Abigail Lesniak nearly broke a KWC record with a massive PR in the 1500, running at 4:45.16 to take 10th in the event. The 1500 was the race to set a PR in on Saturday, as Kate Keller (4:58.85), Sarah Vanderhoof (5:01.21), Emery Crume (5:07.34), Karlee Hoffman (5:10.58), Sidney Reagor (5:16.33) and Shannon Ruble (5:21.46) all managed to get a PR in the event. Coming off an athlete of the week award, Jenna Burns ran for an incredible PR of 58.25 in the 400 to take 11th in the event. Reagor also PR'd and ran the second fastest time in KWC history in the 3000m Steeplechase, coming in third with a time of 12:20.75.

"The staff was excited by how the entire program performed across the facility this weekend. The intention to compete was evident. The energy of the meet was great and the Panthers rose to the occasion," said head coach Sol Stephens. "We had some hiccups in the field events but the team were present to pick them emotionally. The ladies picked it up on the track. 14 Lifetime Bests in one weekend is superb for any program, let alone 1 gender. The ladies showed up and showed out while making moves on the all-time Panther board. Lesniak, Burns, and Reagor moved into 2nd all-time in the 1500, 400 and the Steeple. Coach Jeremy Donahue is doing superb work within his training group, which include Hayes and Harper as the drops are indicative of that strategy. Burns moved into 4th place in the 200 while Kate Keller broke the 5 minute window to go into 3rd place all-time in the 1500. Now, we must maintain our health, focus and get some ladies healthy throughout the finals week in hopes to be at full strength leading up to the G-MAC on May 4th. We are in our "OPE" stage of training – only positive energy to finish their season off strong."
