Strong second day leads Panthers to seventh place finish at KWC Invitational

OWENSBORO, KY - Playing in some non-ideal conditions this weekend, the Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Golf team shot rounds of 306-290 to finish seventh at their own Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational. Their final 36-hole score of 596 (+20) is Wesleyan's best team score since they shot a 592 back in 2019.

Winning the team championship was the Missouri S&T Miners (575, -1), while Caleb Bond of Ferris State took home medalist honors with a 140 (-4).

Leading the way for the Panthers was junior Jonah Graham, who shot rounds of 74-71 to finish with a 145 (+1). This put him in a tie for 10th, his second top ten finish on the year. The second Wesleyan finisher was Evan Schumacher, who tied for 14th thanks to rounds of 74-73 (147, +3). Fellow junior Evan Beery tied for 32nd in the tournament, as after shooting a 79 in round one, he came through with a big even-par second round to finish with a 151 (+7). Rounding out the scoring for the Panthers was senior Tyler Nickol, who shot a 153 (+9) over the course of two rounds. Closing out the scoring for the Panther's first group was Ayden Gillilan, who shot rounds of 83-75 to finish with a 158 (+14).

Leading the way in the second group was Thomas Scott, who's 160 (+16) tied him for 60th. Sam Greenwell wasn't far behind Scott, shooting a 167 (+23). Even Barrett (175) and Grayson Powers (187) were the final two finishers for Wesleyan.

As a team, Kentucky Wesleyan made their mark on the Par 5s, as they finished -9 with an average score of 4.78, third in the tournament. The Panthers finished with 35 birdies, good for second in the entire field. Jonah Graham's tournament best average of 4.25 (-6) on Par 5s led him to his top ten finish.

This was the final tournament of the fall semester for the Panthers, who, in five tournaments, placed in the top ten every time while also having two second place finishes.

Their next tournament will be in February when they take part in the annual Saint Leo Invitational in Saint Leo, Florida.
