OWENSBORO, KY - The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Golf team just keeps improving, and the scores are showing it. After
Ken Badylak's squad broke the school's 54-hole record last week, the Panthers repeated their success, breaking Wesleyan's 36-hole and 18-hole record.
After an opening round 337, Wesleyan shot a record 325 in the second round, fueled by two sub-80 rounds from
Maddie Zimmerman and
Audrey Koetter. This was good for a combined total of 662 (+86), good for 12th in the tournament. Wesleyan took down two G-MAC teams this weekend, as they beat Malone by five strokes and Thomas More by 62.
Leading the way for the Panthers was the new 36-hole school record holder
Maddie Zimmerman. Playing in her last regular season home tournament (G-MAC Championships will take place at the Pearl in the Spring), Zimmerman shot rounds of 77 and 76 to finish in a tie for seventh out of 92 golfers with a 153 (+9). This is Zimmerman's first top ten finish since she tied for sixth at the Klash in Kentucky last year. Also setting a new 36-hole best was sophomore
Audrey Koetter. The consistent Koetter shot rounds of 83-78 to come through with a 161 (+17), good for a tie for 34th.
The third finisher for the Panthers was junior
Megan Bryan, who placed 63rd with rounds of 84-89 (173). After a rough opening round,
Samantha DeSpain improved by 11 strokes (93-82) in round two to finish just behind Bryan with a 175 (+31). Closing it out for Wesleyan was
Avery Shacklette, shooting rounds of 93-96 to finish with a 189 (+45).
Zimmerman used her par-3 prowess to lead her to the top ten finish, as she averaged even par to tie for second in the entire field in that category.
The Panthers will play in one more tournament before winter break, taking part in the Music Invitational at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
