FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL - The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Golf team had records on their mind this week, as they used rounds of 340-332-336 to set a new 54-hole school record of 1008 (+144) at the Bearcat Dual Gender. The Panther's score of 332 was their best since they shot a 329 at the 2019 edition of this very tournament.
The Panthers combined total was good enough for fifth place in the tournament. Rockhurst took home the team title with a 930 (+66).
Leading the way for the Panthers was junior
Samantha DeSpain, who's rounds of 84-82-83 gave her a new personal best of 249 (+33), good for 14th place. Grouped right near each other was the trio of
Maddie Zimmerman (255, +39),
Audrey Koetter (256, +40), and
Avery Shacklette (256, +40). Their consistency showed, as Zimmerman tied for 19th, while Koetter and Shacklette tied for 22nd.
Megan Bryan showed a lot of grit, as after a rough first round, she came back with rounds of 84 and 83 to tie for 31st.
Koetter was the fifth best golfer on par-3s in the tournament, finish at +5 with an average of 3.33. DeSpain's 25 pars led the team and were 11th in the field.
The Panther's will look to continue their success next week when they host the Bill Crabtree Invitational. The tournament will take place at the Pearl Club on Sunday, Oct. 22 - Monday, Oct. 23.
