FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL - The Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Golf team put together another strong performance this week, coming in a tie for second at the McKendree Bearcat Dual Gender. After an opening round score of 300, the Panthers came through with a round-best score of 286 in round two, then a 293 in their final round to finish with an 879 (+15), tying Rockhurst for second.
The host Bearcats took home the team title, finishing with an 856 (-8).
Tyler Nickol continued his strong senior season with his second top five finish of the year. After an opening round 76, he responded with a 67 (-5) in round two, tying his career best. A third round 74 led him to a final total of 217 (+1), which put him in a tie for third out of 50 competitors. The Panther's second top ten finisher was none other than junior
Evan Beery, who set a 54-hole career best with a 219 (+3), which was three strokes better than his previous career best of 222 (+6) set two tournaments ago at Tiffin.
Jonah Graham, who has consistently been one of the Panther's top performers this season, shot rounds of 78-71-75 to finish with a 224 (+8), putting him in a tie for 13th.
After a strong 73 in round one and an 81 in round two,
Evan Schumacher moved up 14 places with a career low 71 in his final round, putting him in a tie for 15th with a 225 (+9). Playing as an individual, freshman
Thomas Scott used a very strong day one to tie Schumacher with a 225 (+9) of his own.
Ayden Gillilan came through with a 232 (+16) to tie for 31st, closing out the scoring for the Panthers.
The Panthers made their mark on par-5's, as they finished in a tie for second with an average of 4.77, going -17 in the tournament on those holes.
Wesleyan shot an incredible 47 strokes better this year than they did last year at this same event, showing the progress Head Coach
Ken Badylak and his squad have made.
The Panthers will close out their fall campaign in two weeks when they will participate in the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, October 2nd - Sunday, October 3rd. The 36-hole tournament will take place at the Pearl Club.
