ASHLAND, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team finished fifth at the Great Midwest Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Drayden McKerrow earned a third-place finish at 197-pounds to claim All-Conference honors for the first time in his career.
It was an ominous start for McKerrow who lost in opening round match 2-1 in a tiebreaker over Brylan Clouse of Lake Erie. McKerrow than pinned Cole Kenyon of Findlay in the consolation round and after a medical forfeit got into the third-place match. Clouse circled back around as McKerrow's opponent in the third-place match, but this time McKerrow left no doubt after a 3-2 decision.
Also placing for the Panthers was
Will Keener who finished fourth at 149-pounds.
Bryson Rowley and
Robert Ward each finished fourth at 125-pounds and heavyweight respectively.
The Panthers collected 19 team points to place fifth overall. The University of Findlay won the team title as they bested Ashland by less than 10 points.
The Panthers will brace for the final leg of the regular season as they will travel to Indianapolis for the Greyhound Duals on February 4
th. Wesleyan will face-off against Indianapolis, Quincy, and Maryville. On February 5
th, the Panthers will stay in Indianapolis for the Greyhound Open.
