COLUMBIA, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team split a pair of duals on Monday night. The Panthers upended Pikeville 42-4 before falling in a back-and-forth match against Lindsey Wilson 23-17.
Cameron Baker came away with two wins on the night, including a pin and major decision.
Pikeville was shorthanded on the night and the Panthers took advantage with several forfeits. At 184-pounds,
Cameron Baker recorded a first period takedown of Randall West and quickly pinned his shoulders to the mat.
The match against the Blue Raiders was a different story as they jumped out to 9-0 lead. The Panthers narrowed the gap at 149-pounds when
Will Keener recorded a second period pin.
Cade Johnson proved to have more endurance at 157-pounds as he outlasted Trevor Pogue in the final period. Johnson recorded two take downs in the third period and earned a bonus point with riding time.
After losses at 165 and 174 pounds, Baker got the Panthers back on track with a major decision at 184-pounds. Backer did not give up an offense point over Hunter Lehrke in a 15-5 major decision.
Drayden McKerrow withstood Gabe Smith at 197 pounds, recording a 6-3 decision to tie the match at 17. The Blue Raiders won at heavyweight to come away with the win.
The Panthers will back in action on Saturday in Ashland, Ohio for the Great Midwest Conference Championship.
