FINDLAY, OH - Findlay used a 12-0 fourth quarter run to pull away from the KWC Panthers and win 68-60 on Thursday night in Ohio.
With the win the Oilers move to 6-10 (4-6 G-MAC) while the Panthers fall to 11-6 (8-3 G-MAC).Â
The opening quarter saw the Panthers take an early lead, going up 10-7 on a three from
Emma Johnson.
Reeva Hammelman knocked in a three from the corner a few plays later and the Panthers led 15-11 after one.Â
Wesleyan started off hot in the second quarter, going up 21-11 four minute in off of back-to-back threes from
Rachel Richardson and
Jordyn Barga. Findlay came storming back at the end of the frame and after a
Shaylee McDonald free throw with four seconds half the Panthers led 27-26 heading into the locker room.Â
Barga started the third quarter strong, scoring seven of the Panthers first nine points of the frame. With the Oilers holding on to a lead near the end of the quarter, McDonald scored five straight points for Wesleyan to cut the lead to two heading into the fourth.Â
Cali Nolot opened the fourth with two straight buckets before
Tahlia Walton put in a layup to give KWC a 49-48 lead with 6:17 left to go in the game. After a Walton layup to give Wesleyan a one point lead with 3:20 left, UF hit three straight shots and went 6-6 from the line to take the game by an eight point margin.Â
Tahlia Walton led the Panthers with 14, while
Jordyn Barga was the only other Panther in double figures with 10. Barga notched seven rebounds while
Shiya Hoosier,
Tahlia Walton, and
Shaylee McDonald each handed out two assists.Â
Wesleyan shot 20-51 (39.2%) from the field and 9-27 (33.3%) from three. Findlay was 22-47 (46.8%) from the field and an impressive 8-16 (50%) from behind the arc. Despite the loss, the Panthers were extremely pesky on defense, forcing the Oilers into 24 turnovers.Â
Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday when they head up to Michigan to take on the Chargers of Hillsdale. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. CT.
