OWENSBORO, KY - For the first time since 2016, Kentucky Wesleyan College has an All-American.
KiShawn Walker, after completing a stellar senior season for the Panthers, has been named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American First Team. Walker is the only individual from the state of Kentucky to be named an AFCA DII AlI-American, and he is one of just three G-MAC athletes to garner the honor.
"KiShawn is everything you want in a coach," said Associate Head Coach
Tyrone Young. "He is a sponge for coaching and it has been tremendous seeing his growth these past two seasons. His versatility was on full display this year and I'm glad the AFCA saw what he did. For our program to have a First Team All-American shows the leaps and bounds we are heading towards. I'm proud beyond measure of KiShawn and he is someone that I will always hold a special place for in my heart."
Walker finished the season with 17 pass breakups, five interceptions, one pick-six, 39 total tackles, two TFL, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He notched two games with three pass breakups and set a career high against Findlay with four. In just two years of play he ranks seventh in career passes defended in KWC history. His 22 total passes defended put him at fourth all time in a season in KWC history, and the first person since 1992 to eclipse the 20 passes defended mark.
Defensive Backs Coach
Brandon Frase states "The amount of work KiShawn has done to get to the level he is at is incredible. He is successful at everything he does, both on and off the field. KiShawn will be missed but will always have a home here in the 'Boro. I can't wait to see how much more his game improves as he follows his dream and takes on his next football journey!"
This season Walker was named First Team All-Conference as well as First Team All-Region. He is the first Wesleyan Football Player to be named to an All-American team since currently NFL player Keelan Cole in 2016, and the first defensive player since Hall of Famer Brian Seider was named to the All-American First Team in both 1996 and 1997.
Walker will be showing off his skills at the College Gridiron Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas on January 8-12, 2022.
