TINLEY PARK, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's bowling team was crowned champions of the Flyers Classic this weekend hosted by Lewis University. The tournament win marks the second tournament title in program history.
The Panthers went 9-4 during the three-day event. Wesleyan opened the tournament with a 1005-776 win over Elmhurst before falling to No. 15 Central Missouri and Dominican. The Panthers bounced back with a 953-884 win over host Lewis and closed out day one with a 941-903 win over Upper Iowa.
Day two opened with a 945-838 win over Augustana before a loss to Drury. The third match of the day saw one of the highest scores in program history with a 1063-780 win over Spalding. The Panthers followed that with a 926-849 win over Aurora before closing out the day with a loss to Marian.
In the final traditional match of the tournament, Wesleyan picked up a 895-791 win over North Central to earn the fourth seed in match play.
The Panthers took down No. 15 Central Missouri once again, this time by a score of 4-1. Wesleyan edged host Lewis 4-3 in the championship.
Wesleyan averaged 182.5 pins per game in 67 games throughout the weekend. Kayla Payne and Angelique McKeny were both named to the All-Tournament team with averages of 185.83 and 184.33 respectively.
