CASEYVILLE, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's golf team posted its lowest round of the season on Tuesday at the Bearcat Intercollegiate. Wesleyan posted a ninth-place finish at the annual event contested at Far Oaks Golf Club.
The Panthers face 36-holes on Monday and with overnight rains, the second round would not be completed until Tuesday morning.
Maddie Zimmerman posted an opening round of 84 to help the Panthers to a day one score of 356. Sam Yake was also steady as she carded an opening round of 86.
The overcast sky did not allow much sunlight at the end of the day as the round was suspended due to darkness with three holes remaining. On Tuesday, the Panthers finished the second round with a 357. Yake saw a five-shot improvement on her round as she paced the Panthers with a score of nine over par 81.
Wesleyan saved its best for the final round. The Panthers found their stride as the Zimmerman recorded two birdies and two bogeys in her first 12 holes. With back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13, Zimmerman bounced back with two consecutive birdies. However, her final round was interrupted with a thunderstorm. Upon return to the final round, Zimmerman closed out her round with a three over par 75. She finished with four birdies and four bogeys and a triple to post her career low.
Zimmerman posted a 54-hole total of 249 to place 30
th out of a field of 50 competitors. Yake continued her steady play with a final round 85 to finish with all three rounds in the 80s. Her three-round total of 252 ranked in tie for 32
nd.
The Panthers posted a final round of 337, their best of the fall.
Erin Sexsmith and
Scout Pope saved their best rounds for last as they recorded 88 and 89 respectively to round out the team score. Pope started and finished with rounds of 89.
The Panthers will have a week off before hosting the Kentucky Wesleyan College Fall Invitational. The event will be contested at The Pearl Club.
