OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's golf team finished eighth at the Great Midwest Fall Preview on Tuesday. The Panthers continued to show improvement over the 36-hole event as they produced their lowest round of the season on Monday.
Wesleyan served as tournament host at The Pearl Club. The Panthers started play on Monday afternoon with their lowest round of the season. Kaelen Rice recovered from a shaky start which saw her six over early. Rice pulled things together, making nine pars and birdie in her final 17 holes to shoot 84.
Maddie Zimmerman countered with an opening round of 86 while Sam Yake carded a round of 87. Yake also recovered from hiccups throughout the round to finish strong. Hayley Frost rounded out the top four with an opening round of 90. All together the Panthers shot their lowest round of the young season, 347.
On Tuesday morning, the Panthers posted a second round of 357. Zimmerman bounced back on day two with a final round of 84. Her 170 two-day total stands as a career low. Zimmerman placed 31st overall in the process.
Yake carded another 87 in the final round to finish with a 36-hole total of 174 and finish 36th. Rice finished 38th as she posted a two-day total of 177. Scout Pope carded rounds of95-93 to finish 43rd. Frost places 42nd.
The Panthers place eighth in the nine team field with a 36-hole total of 704. The University of Findlay took top team honors for the third year in a row. The Oilers recorded a two-day total of 587 to best Tiffin by 13.
The Panthers will prepare for the next event, the Music City Invitational. The 36-hole event will be contested at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
