LEXINGTON, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's golf team finished its season with their best finish in the Great Midwest Conference Championship since 2013-14 when the league was formed around five teams. The Panthers finished ninth out of 11 teams in the 54-hole event.
 
The Spring can bring a variety of weather patterns and when the first round opened on Friday morning, 27-holes were extended to 36 in an effort to make a complete championship. The Panthers battled through on-and-off showers and dropping temperatures to post an opening round of 407.
 
The University of Kentucky Golf Club and Wildcat Course did not yield too many low scores as Samantha Yake paced Wesleyan with an opening round of 89. The afternoon 18, saw conditions get progressively worse, but as the Panthers equaled their opening round of 407. Leslie Swafford improved by five shots in the second loop around Wildcat, carding a round of 99.
 
Kaelen Rice saw the biggest improvement from the opening round as she knocked-off eight shots from her score to post a second round of 95. Rice then helped the Panthers post their lowest round in G-MAC Championship history as she recorded a final round of 91. Rice played a solid front nine, but struggled down the stretch. Her three-day total of 289 placed 43^rd overall.
 
Yake bounced back in the final round as well as she posted a closing round of 86, her lowest score of the spring, to place 34^th out of 56 players. Yaked carded rounds of 98 and 91 at Four Bridges in last year's G-MAC Championship. The Panthers closed with a third-round total of 396.
 
Scout Pope saved her best round for last as the Friday brought only colder temperatures. Pope posted a final round of 106 to finish with a three-round total of 333 and place 55^th. Swafford carded a three-day total of 316 to place 48^th.
 
"It is a proud moment for this program," said Head Golf Coach Ken Badylak. "Wesleyan has only produced a team score in this event one other time in the last five years. Step-by-step we will continue to improve and if trends continue, we will see lower scores in the near future."
 
The University of Findlay won the event with a rounds of 320-312-300. Tiffin took runner-up honors, 33-shots behind the Oilers. Meredith Wipper took home medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 224, edging her teammate by five shots.
