SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's golf team finished eighth at the Illinois Springfield Spring Invitational on Saturday. The 36-hole event was shortened to 18-holes after sleet and rain was forecasted on Sunday.
The Panthers posted a round of 395 on Saturday at Piper Glen Golf Course.
Samantha Yake led the team a round of 88, her lowest score this spring. Yake finished in a tie for 22
nd overall in a field of 43 competitors.
Kaelen Rice jumped out to solid start to the day, but struggled on her inward nine and finished with a round of 93. Rice's round was good enough to finish 29
th. Rounding out the team scores were
Leslie Swafford and
Scout Pope who carded rounds of 103 and 111 respectively.
The host Prairie Stars won the event with a team total of 309, 14 shots better than Drury University. Maria Espinosa from UIS and Ellie Cobb of Drury shared medalist honors after rounds of four over par 76.
The Panthers will travel to Lexington on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. The 54-hole event will be contested at the University Club of Kentucky Wildcat Course.
