SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's golf team concluded the fall portion of the season on Tuesday morning at the Illinois Springfield Island Getaway. The Panthers finished in sixth place in the ultimate event of the fall which was contested on the Ocean Course at the Wyndham Rio Mar Golf and Beach Resort.
As temperatures grew higher throughout Monday morning, Wesleyan opened play with a round of 365. Loose shots proved to be costly in the opening round as Samantha Yake pulled together a round of 89. Kaelen Rice carded a round of 91.
The Panthers rebounded in the final round with an improved round of 360. Yake played her last seven holes in one over par, a run that included six straight pars. She posted a total 83 to finish the 36-hole event with a two-day total of 172 and place 18th overall.
Rice also improved her day one total by six shots as she carded a final round 85, finishing 23rd out of 31 competitors. Rounding out the top five for the Panthers was Scout Pope who posted rounds of 96-94 to finish 29th.
Maddie Zimmerman struggled in the final round and posted a two-day total of 190. A few holes proved to be problematic for Erin Sexsmith who posted a two-day total of 191.
One of the best teams in the nation, the University of Tampa took top team honors as they posted rounds 294 and 297 to take top team honors. Shorter University was a distant second.
Kiira Riihijarvi from Tampa posted a two-day total of four-under par to take medalist honors but eight shots over teammate Hallie Riley.
The Panthers finished the fall with a 349 team average, down from 383 last season.
