OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer (0-6-2, 0-2-2) battled back to earn a draw at home against Malone (3-3-2, 2-2-1) 1-1 Thursday evening. The Panthers equalized in the second half through
Kiera Tynes after Malone took the lead in the first through Nayeli Cruz.
Malone struck first in the 28th minute when Cruz finished a pass from Emily Bayles to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Kentucky Wesleyan created opportunities of its own during the opening half but entered the break trailing by one.
The Panthers continued to pressure Malone after halftime, with
Brooke Meeks and
Haylie Panter each putting shots on target early in the second half. Kentucky Wesleyan's persistence paid off in the 66th minute when
Kiera Tynes found the back of the net from 20 yards out on an assist from Panter, leveling the match at 1-1. It is the first goal of the season for Tynes.
Kentucky Wesleyan continued to push for the go-ahead goal, putting several more chances toward the Malone goal during the final 25 minutes. Malone goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan made three saves in the second half to keep the match level.
Caleigh Meeks finished with two saves for Kentucky Wesleyan, while Henderhan recorded three saves for Malone. The Panthers finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 edge after halftime.
