OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's tennis team split their two matches on Saturday at Centre Court.
In their first match of the day, the Panthers defeated crosstown rival Brescia 4-1. Wesleyan took the doubles point with wins by Nick Stoever/Marc Stoever on Court 1 (6-3) and Kade Eber/Adryan Taylor (6-3) on Court 3.
Wesleyan took their 1-0 advantage into singles, where the Panthers had to prevail on three of six courts to take home the victory. Jose Ferrandis (6-2, 6-0) earned Wesleyan's second point on Court 1 before Brescia earned their first and only point on Court 3.
Just needing two more points, Marc Stoever pushed KWC to the doorstep with his 6-3, 6-2 triumph on Court 2. Finally, Adryan Taylor prevailed 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in a comeback victory to clinch the victory for the Panthers.
Kade Eber was up 6-3, 4-2 on Court 6 and Marc Stoever narrowly trailed 5-7, 3-2 on Court 5 when the match was finalized.
Wesleyan fell 6-1 to Earlham in their second match of the afternoon. Although the Panthers lost the doubles point, the duo of Caleb Stovall/Marcos Tiferes won on Court 2, 6-4.
Jose Ferrandis continued his strong play in singles with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph on Court 1, but that was all the success KWC could find against the Quakers.
The Kentucky Wesleyan men's tennis team next travels to St. Louis, Missouri, for two matches on Thursday, March 5th. Wesleyan will take on Missouri Baptist in the morning before following with a contest against Webster in the afternoon.
