Eagles Grounded at Panther Field

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team earn six points this weekend after solidifying their second win of the week on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers dispatched Thomas More earlier this week and polished-off Ashland 2-1 at Panther Field on Saturday. The win comes as the second of the season for the Panthers against two losses and four draws.

As the Eagles (2-4-1, 1-3 G-MAC) racked-up the fouls in the first half, the Panthers continued to look for scoring opportunities. Ashland committed 11 fouls in the opening period to Panthers three, while Wesleyan was on the attack with seven shots in the first 45 minutes.

In the 32nd minute Callum Nolan fired a shot that was deflected back to Braeden Myers-Curry who put the rebound away for the match's first goal. Less than two minutes later Haakon Torvbraaten saw his attempt to increase the lead saved. In the 40th minute, shortly after a corner kick, Myers-Curry looked for his second goal of the match, but it was saved again by the Eagles.

The Panthers went into intermission with a 1-0 lead. As the second period started more pressure from the Panthers' offense swarmed the Eagles. Cole Greenshields fired a shot in the 49th minute, but in the 50thminute Mattie McNally connected on what would be the game-winner. McNally's goal was assisted by Ivan Juarez and Nicklas Henriksen.

The two goal lead was short-lived. Two minutes later, Ashland cut their deficit in half with their first goal of the game. The Panthers continued to keep the Eagles off balance. In the final 36 minutes, Ashland tallied two shots and two yellow cards.

In total the Panthers took 13 shots, four on goal. Henriksen and McNally each finished with three shots on the day. Iver Sjavag finished with one save.

The Panthers will continue with Great Midwest action on Thursday with a trip to Canton, Ohio to face Malone. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30PM CT and is also available live on Flo College.
