Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team, looking to get revenge for last season's G-MAC championship game, lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to Findlay Saturday afternoon.
Wesleyan fell to 0-2-4 with the loss. The Oilers increased their all-time series lead to 12-1-2 and improved to 2-3-0 this season.
Findlay put the pressure on the Panthers early, netting a 15th-minute goal to earn a quick 1-0 advantage. That tally would hold heading into the break.
The Panthers responded in the 61st minute. Cole Greenshields registered the first goal of his junior season to knot the match up.
It looked as if the game would end in a tie up until the Oilers got free for a game-winning 84th-minute goal to ultimately prevail.
The box score reflected what a tight match it was, with Wesleyan edging Findlay 9-7 in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal, but the Oilers earning one more corner kick (4-3).
Braeden Myers-Curry, Cal Nolan, and Nicklas Henriksen all came off the bench to tally the other five shots on goal for the Panthers.
Wesleyan next returns to Owensboro for an in-state rivalry matchup versus Thomas More. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Panther Field on Wednesday, September 24.
