Panthers and Bearcats Battle to a Draw

OWENBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team continued its non-conference season with a crosstown match-up against Brescia University on Friday evening. Like the previous two matches of the season the result was the same, a draw. Mattie McNally scored his second goal of the season in the 1-1 tie at Panther Field.

The Bearcats (1-4-2) were playing in their seventh game of the season, but it was the Panthers (0-0-3) who controlled and near dominated possession. After an initial burst of action from Brescia, the Panthers took control in the 26th minute. With precise ball movement around the pitch, the Panthers had the Bearcats stretched across their side of the field.

As the ball reversed to the far side of the field, Jersey Lopez lofted a pass to the opposite corner of the net for Mattie McNally who scored an easy header into the top corner. The goal marks the second of the season for McNally.

In a scramble before the half, the Bearcats tied the match in the 40th minute. The second half did not come without chances as the Panthers continually applied pressure on the Bearcats. In the 53rd minute Cole Greenshields missed left and after a yellow card on the Bearcats the Panthers had two more chances.

This time shots by Lopez and Hamish Strong were saved by Brescia keeper Pau Gelabert in the 53rd and 56thminute respectively. With less than 10 minutes left in the match the Panthers' captain, Haakon Torvbaaten, tried to break the tie with a shot heading towards the top shelf, but Gelabert made a leaping save.

Elias Jonsson finished with two shots on goal. Strong also had two shots, one on goal. Iver Sjavag made on save on the night.

The Panthers will host Union on Sunday. The match is scheduled to start at 2PM.
