Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan football team was defeated 49-14 by the Northwood Timberwolves Saturday afternoon at Steele Stadium.
Northwood, who Wesleyan defeated 27-20 last season, scored 21 points in the first and 14 in the second to take full control of the game.
Coming into the game, the Panthers had gone nearly a month without a touchdown, but quarterback Justus Wertzler ended that cold spell with a 30-yard run late in the third quarter to get the home team on the board.
Later, the Panthers went out with positivity after Wertzler connected with DJ Perry for an acrobatic touchdown catch to cap off a 13-play, 75-yard drive with just forty seconds left in the final frame.
Wertzler totaled 121 passing yards and 47 rushing yards on top of his passing and rushing touchdowns. DJ Perry had a career day with five catches for 58 yards and his first career touchdown grab.
Josh Noble also had a career day, racking up 15 total tackles to lead the way for the defense. Nolan Forsha continued his strong play with nine tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss and a sack.
