Panthers Lose Last-Second Heartbreaker

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 on a last-second goal by Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon at Panther Field.

With three seconds left in the match, the Miners' Luiz Bernis delivered a strike to the right corner to send the Panthers to a heartbreaking loss.

The scoring began when Haakon Torvbraaten connected with Callum Nolan to get Wesleyan on the board first midway through the first half. The Panthers used stellar defense to hold the Miners scoreless as Wesleyan took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was all Missouri S&T. Roughly 10 minutes into the half, S&T's Luke Giesing delivered an impressive pass to Nathan Weyrauch and the latter tied the match at 1-1 with a header score.

The game seemed to be headed to a draw, but the Miners had other plans as Bernis drained the game-winner from roughly 30 yards out.

The Panthers are back in action Wednesday night with an exciting matchup vs. Brescia. First kick is set for 7 p.m. at Panther Field.
