Owensboro, Ky. - The Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team triumphed by the score of 3-1 over the Malone Pioneers on Saturday afternoon at Steele Stadium.
The Pioneers began the scoring with a corner kick that resulted in a header goal by Elijah Caparello-Wanless in the 6th minute to put Malone on the board first at 1-0.Â
Although the Pioneers maintained their 1-0 lead going into the half, Wesleyan responded quickly after the break with a 50th minute penalty kick goal by
Haakon Torvbraaten to not the match up at 1-1.Â
Just a couple minutes after that in the 52nd minute,
Callum Nolan chased the ball down in the corner and delivered a picture-perfect pass to
Braden Meyers-Curry in the box for a header score that gave the Panthers a 2-1 advantage.Â
With Wesleyan hanging on to that lead near the end of the match,
Jacob Boling received a corner kick opportunity. Boling sent a kick to
Calum Newson, who zipped a pass to Torvbraaten for his second goal of the match that would wrap up the 3-1 victory for the Panthers.Â
Wesleyan moves to 5-2-0 (3-1-0 G-MAC) while Malone falls to 3-2-1 (0-2-1 G-MAC).Â
The Panthers next begin a three-match road trip, first taking on the Walsh Cavaliers in North Canton, Ohio. Kickoff is set for 6 PM on Thursday, October 3.Â
