Panthers Start G-MAC Play 2-0

FINDLAY, OH. – The Great Midwest delegation of coaches picked the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team to finish ninth this season.  The Panthers took to the road to start league play and ended a perfect trip with a 2-0 result over Findlay on Saturday. The victory marks the first the Panthers have ever recorded against the Oilers, 0-9-2 in the previous 11 match-ups.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, it was the Oilers (3-2, 1-1 G-MAC) that were caught napping at the end of the first half. After a long goal kick by the Panthers (4-1, 2-0 G-MAC) was controlled by Findlay, the defense attempted to tap the ball back to their keeper, but no one accounted for Jacob Boling. Boling split the defense and with Keegan Grant already pulled out of the goal it was easy for Boling to put away the match's first goal.

The Panthers took seven shots in the opening period, five on goal. The Oilers recorded six shots in the first 45 minutes, two on goal. Wesleyan held the 1-0 lead until the 67th minute when Calum Newson score his second goal of the road trip. The insurance goal came from the assist by Ivan Juarez. With one touch through traffic Juarez found Newson on the right side of the box. Newson quickly put the goal away to all but sink the Oilers.

In the 69th minute, Soufian Khaloufi saved the Oilers' attempt to get on the board. Khaloufi was tested two other times in the final 20 minutes, making both save to preserve a clean sheet and victory for the Panthers.

Khaloufi made eight saves on the day to record the win. Both Jersey Lopez and Braden Meyers-Curry took two shots, one on goal. Newson's loan shot of the match was a goal as was the game-winner from Boling.

The Panthers return to Owensboro on Thursday to host Tiffin University. The match at Panther Field is scheduled to start at 7:30PM.
