Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer team earned their first win of the year with a 2-0 victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday night at Panther Field.
The Panthers move to 1-3 (0-0 G-MAC) while the Trojans fall to 1-1 (0-0 GSC). a
Steeley Walker got the scoring started with a 9th minute goal, her first of the year, off a stellar pass by Emily Goff to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.
Later in the first half, Walker returned the favor by delivering a magnificent cross-field dart to Goff to give the freshman a 1-on-1 opportunity. Goff came through with a left leg shot to the right side of the net, also her first goal of the year, to double the Wesleyan lead at 2-0.
That was all the Panthers would need on the night as their impressive defense carried them the rest of the way. Kassidy Elkin tallied a 90-minute shutout with three saves while Wesleyan as a team only allowed three shots on goal by the Trojans.
The victory by the Panthers is the first over Trevecca Nazarene since 2015, a 15-match streak that included 14 losses and a tie.
Wesleyan looks to build on the big win next Saturday, September 21st, in their conference opener against Ohio Dominican. First kick is set for 12 p.m. at Panther Field.
