Columbus, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer team earned a 2-0 triumph over Ohio Dominican on Saturday afternoon.
Wesleyan improves to 5-10-0 overall and 4-7-0 in the G-MAC, while Ohio Dominican falls to 4-6-5 overall and 4-3-4 in the G-MAC.
The victory is the first over Ohio Dominican in Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer history. The teams have played 11 matches to date, with ODU leading 10-1.
After 28 scoreless minutes between the programs, Haley Osborne tallied the fifth goal of her sophomore season in the 29th minute to put Wesleyan in front 1-0.
Later, in the 76th minute, the Panthers were fouled in the box to earn a penalty kick. Claudia Melgar took advantage, tallying her first goal of the year to double the lead at 2-0.
The defense did the rest of the work, as Chloe Honeycutt and Abby Payne each played a half to combine for a shutout of Ohio Dominican. Defenders Ilana Hall, Caitlyn Honeycutt, and Madison Ward played a strong part in keeping ODU out of Panthers' territory.
Two of Wesleyan's final three games are at home, with the first of which coming on Thursday, October 31 vs. Walsh. Kickoff is set for 5 PM at Panther Field.
