INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team went up against two of the best teams in the nation on Saturday. The Panthers lost duals to the University of Indianapolis and Maryville to start the Greyhound Duals. The Panthers then ended the day with a narrow 23-20 loss to Quincy University.
UIndy ranked ninth in the nation while Maryville is receiving national votes. The Panthers were shut-out against the two, but embarked in a thrilling dual against Quincy to end the day.
Bryson Rowley started the dual off against the Hawks with 13-8 decision at 125 pounds. Rowley held a 10-6 lead going into the final period and did not allow an offensive point in the final period.
Dalen Kimble and
Cade Johnson each recorded pins at 149 and 157 pounds to give the Panthers a 15-3 lead over the Hawks. However, Quincy picked-up a pin, a tech fall, and decision in the next three matches to take control.
After a Panther forfeit at 197 pounds, the Hawks had secured enough point to win the dual. Nevertheless,
Kelton Farmer took care of business at heavyweight as he dispatched of his opponent by technical fall 17-2.
The Panthers will stay in Indianapolis tomorrow to compete in the Greyhound Open. Competition will begin at 9 AM CT.
