Panthers Celebrate Senior Night in 2-0 Loss to Walsh

Six seniors honored in pregame festivities

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer team fell to the Walsh Cavaliers in a 2-0 shutout on Thursday evening at Panther Field.

The Panthers celebrated Senior Night before the match, honoring Kassidy Elkin, Caitlyn Honeycutt, Claudia Melgar, Rachael Poneskis, Sydney Tucker, and Madison Ward for their contributions to the women's soccer program.

Wesleyan is now 5-11-0 overall and 4-8-0 in the G-MAC, while Walsh improves to 9-5-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the G-MAC. The Panthers also trail the all-time series 10-2 after the loss, with their last win coming in 2021.

The Cavaliers got going early, tallying the first goal of the match in the 10th minute and tacking on their second goal in the 27th minute.

It was a defensive battle the rest of the way, with Walsh controlling possession for most of the match. The road team ended up leading in shots (14 to 6), shots on goal (10 to 2), and corner kicks (10 to 5).

The Panthers had opportunities to cut into the lead, specifically with a Haley Osborne shot that hit the top crossbar, but ultimately couldn't get on the board.

Wesleyan has two matches left on the season, with the first of which coming this Saturday, November 2, on the road at Northwood. Kickoff is set for 11 AM in Midland, Michigan.
