Wesleyan Blanks Idle Storm

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team picked up a win and three points in the Great Midwest standings on Thursday night with a win over Lake Erie College. Kassidy Elkin produced a clean sheet while Haley Osborne scored the game-winner in a 1-0 decision.

Eklin and the Panthers (4-9, 3-6 G-MAC) were tested early as the Storm (2-9-1, 0-7-1 G-MAC) fired three shots within in the first 18 minutes, two of which were on goal. In the same span, Haylie Panter fired two shots on goal, but both were saved.

After 20 minutes Haley Osborne checked-in and the substitution paid dividends later in the half. At the 40 minute mark, Osborne received a throw-in and controlled the ball with her back to the goal. With a defender on her back and another charging from the other side, Osborne turned and fired through traffic to score in the over the extended arm of Storm keeper Emily Ngo.

Both teams took four shots in the first half, but it was the Panthers who benefited with a 1-0 lead. The second period began in the same fashion as the first, the Storm fired two quick shots at Elkin right out of the gate. The Panthers' keeper was up to the task, preserving a shut-out.

The Panther defense would allow three more shots in the final 43 minutes of play. Wesleyan took nine shots in the second half and saw unlucky bounces result in missed opportunities.

In the end, Panter took four shots, three on goal with Osborne scoring the lone goal of the match. Elkin made five saves.

Wesleyan will have week to prepare for one of the best teams in the nation, Ashland on Thursday. The match against the Eagles is scheduled for 5:30PM CT.
